About Ron Paul

Ron Paul is currently in his tenth term as a Republican United States Congressman and hails from Lake Jackson in Texas. Ron Paul is also a Republican candidate for the United States Presidential Election in 2008. In the 1988 United States presidential election, Ron Paul placed in third place as the nominee for the Libertarian party despite being registered as a Republican. Ron Paul has a background in obstetrics and gynecology following a graduation from Duke University school of Medicine, and served as a flight surgeon for the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War.

In February of 2007, Ron Paul formed an exploratory committee whose purpose was to gauge the amount of support Ron Paul would receive were he to run in the 2008 United States Presidential Election. Ron Paul was apparently quite pleasantly surprised by the findings of his committee, as he declared his candidacy for the Republican nomination less than a month later in March of 2007. According to a poll held by CNN in February of 2007, Ron Paul’s name had the least amount of name recognition over all besides John H. Cox.

Ron Paul has managed to generate a long support for his 2008 United States presidential campaign. According to Technorati, Alexa and Hitwise, Ron Paul is the top Internet search term for presidential candidates. His 2008 United States Presidential election YouTube account has more than 31,000 subscribers. Ron Paul is managing to place in the top tier of fundraising receipts and straw polls for the Republican Party; he still appears to be having trouble placing highly among Gallup samples for Republican voters on a national basis.

In May of this year, Ron Paul was only polling in fifth place among Republican contenders for a likely nominee. Ron Paul’s support began to increase, and his support has risen to 5-6% in many states according to several different polls. Two favorable straw polls featured Ron Paul in August of this year. His popularity seems to be growing at a steady pace with as much as 73-81% favoring him to other Republican contenders in some states.

Ron Paul has been a part of six different Republican presidential debates, and according to phone polls taken after each debate; he has successfully won five of them. Ron Paul can attribute a great deal of his success so far to his internet following, which is fast working to make him the post popular presidential candidate on the World Wide Web. Ron Paul’s YouTube receives more hits, and more subscribers than any other Presidential candidate, and his name is the most popular presidential candidate search term on many popular Blogosphere ranking guides, including Alexa, Hitwise and Technorati.

Although some view Ron Paul’s bid for the presidency as a long shot, the speed at which he is gaining popularity in our country should be a testament to how capable he is as a truly viable presidential candidate for the 2008 United States presidential election.
