Online Appeal

Ron Paul’s poll numbers and the results of his fund raising efforts are providing to be fueled in a large part by his growing online popularity. In the third-quarter fund raising cycle, Republican candidate Ron Paul managed to surprise everyone in his field by raising $5.1 million dollars, and at least seventy percent of those donations were acquired through online donators. According to recent poll figures, between the months of July and September, Ron Paul managed to attract as many as 17,461 new donors. Ron Paul is still not managing quite as many new donors as other candidates taking part in the 2008 United States Presidential Election, as Mitt Romney for example managed to bring more than 23,000 new donors during the same quarter.

Ron Paul managed to receive donations from more than 21,642 donors during the last quarter, with the average donation coming in at about $94.38, and the median donation amount falling in at around $45.52. Ron Paul appears to be consistently improving upon his fundraising campaigns with each additional quarter, unlike the rest of the candidates within the GOP field. In the first quarter, Ron Paul only managed to raise around $640,000, with $2.4 million raised in the second quarter and finally $5.1 million raised in the third. Ron Paul has more cash in hand than many other presidential candidates, including John McCain who only has around $3.6 million in hand. Ron Paul has also managed to significantly out raise both Mike Huckabee and Tom Tancredo who both received a great deal more airtime during the last Republican debate.

It appears that Ron Paul’s online supporters are managing to mobilize in such a way, that he may actually stand a serious chance of winning the presidency. Ron Paul’s campaign has upped the ante by raising their fourth quarter goal to $12 million dollars by the last day of the year, December 31. He has only brought in around $633,000 as of the 11th of October, but he seems to be optimistic still that his Internet supporters will come through for him. A spokesman for the Ron Paul campaign spoke out about the reasoning behind being public about their campaign contribution goal. He attributes the goal to the understanding that waging a national presidential campaign is going to take quite a bit of money.

Ron Paul’s Internet support is spreading like wild fire, almost like viral Internet marketing would. Ron Paul’s YouTube already has thousands of viewers, visitors and subscribers. According to many websites that keep track of popularity within the Blogosphere or the network of web logs on the Internet, Ron Paul is the most popular search term relating to the 2008 Presidential Election. With spreading, growing popularity like this, perhaps Ron Paul’s Internet supporters truly can pull things together for him.
